Margie White

Margie White was born in 1947 and brought up in the outskirts of Liverpool. She attended St Philomena’s S.M and went on to the Hugh Baird College of Art and Design for 3 years. In 1983 she moved to Devon with her husband and three sons where she enrolled in evening classes in Life Drawing, Sculpture and Ceramics.

In 1994 Margie bought the Madryn Studios in Coombinteignhead where she exhibited and sold her work with other local artists and crafts people. Here she also carried out picture framing and art restoration and would have artists from all over the country and as far away as Ireland come to her to have their work framed and to purchase the original art on display. From the studio Margie taught evening classes to individuals and groups of all ages, teaching drawing, painting, picture framing and also some art restoration along with furniture restoration or whatever other skills she had that they wanted to learn.

In 2004, with her children grown up and recently divorced, Margie sold the studios and did some travelling. – Her great adventure!

Currently Margie, having sold her house, is living with her son and her family whilst she looks for a property abroad from where she can work steadily and concentrate on what she needs to do. Margie’s first love is sculpture, but with limited space she has concentrated on her painting and finds abstract mixed media work a more exciting, stimulating and expressive way of working.
